third picture of Mysore is called Mahisha-sura, the demon

My family has always teased mne about how much I love olives ever since I was found sitting on the floor surrounded by 23 olive pits at age one and a half. Later doing genealogical research we have found that our ancestors in France and our distance relatives living there now raise olives and more olives! One Christmas one of my close friends gave me a huge box filled will all sorts of olives (our selection is somewhat limited here) and a great olive cookbook. And yes, no pizza, salad or pasta sauce is ever quite complete without olives. Dipping good bread in flavored olive oil is super, too. Do you know the title and author of the very new book about olive culture and its history and significance in world history? There was an interview within the last two weeks on the TODAY show about it, but I missed the essential info. Love your web site!

One point though about fat. The fat in an olive is very good for you and it is now considered healthy to eat Meditarranean type food thus preventing heart and other diseases. Do not let the fat contant put you off eating black olives

I had a wonderful trek through the Ganesh Himal in April
1996. I went with Sponsortrek in Holland, and we used
the local outfitter, Icelandic Trekking in Kathmandu.
We saw no other trekking groups in our 18-day trek, and
visited remote health posts as part of meeting local people,
and donating money and medical instruments.

I haven't finished looking over the page yet. However,
the reason for looking it up was to find some recipe's for
curing olives and for flavoring them after we're done curing
them. Have some black olive (calamata or mission olive trees)
and we are curing them in brine and with salt (greek method)
However, after we are done with that I want to flavor the
olives in the jar with garlic, sage or what have you. Any
suggestions. Italian recipe's perferred. .

Whilst searching the net for focaccia recipes I got diverted to your page.
Fantastic, I am bit of a gastronaut and adore olives.
Earlier this year I toured Northern Italy and then stayed for two weeks in a villa in Tuscany
surrounded by heaps of olives.

Here in Sydney Australia we have a good range of imported olives available, probably due to our diverse ethnic makeup, and local ones are availalble.

Anyway I'm going back to the search for recipes, your page is great! I've bookmarked it and will refer to it.

I can't believe there is someone who
had a childhood history with Olives
like mine. I used to eat tons of black olives
as a child. One time I ate a whold can....
major visit to the rest room after that one.
Didn't know they were a laxative.
Anyway, that didn't stop me. I still love them
in everything. Like you, I didn't used to like
the green ones but now I love green, black,
Kalamata(calamata) Spanish, whatever.
My favorite olive dish is from a little restaurant
in Cincinnati (actually the oldest continuously ]
operating tavern in Cincinnati) called Arnold's. The
dish is very basic.:
Garlic sauteed in olive oil
Kalamata Olives and Spanish Olives
Feta Cheese
Linguine
Crushed bacon if you prefer.
I'm not sure about the exact recipe but that's all
I see in it when I'm in heaven eating it.
By the way, it's called Greek Pasta if you ever
get to Arnold's. I'll have a homepage someday
soon and let you know what it is. I'm HTML challenged
at the moment. I'm also a coffee fanatic if you ever
want to talk java.
